Amir Wagih (born August 21, 1967 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian squash player and today's squash trainer.

Career

Amir Wagih was active as a squash player between 1987 and 2000 and in November 1997 he reached 16th place in the world rankings. He won two titles on the PSA Tour during his career .

With the Egyptian national team he took part in the World Cup in 1989 , 1991 , 1993 , 1995 , 1997 and 1999 . In 1999 he became world champion, but did not appear in the final against Wales . Between 1995 and 1999 he was four times in the main field of the individual world championships. He reached at least the quarter-finals every time. In 1998 he moved into the second round for the only time in which he was defeated by Peter Nicol in three sets.

After his playing career, Amir Wagih became a full-time squash trainer. From 2002 to 2006 he was in charge of the Kuwaiti national team and from 2006 to 2013 he was head coach of Egypt. With him as coach, Egypt became world champions in 2009 and 2011 .
