Christopher Simon Dittmar (born January 16, 1964 in Adelaide ) is a former Australian squash player .

Life

Chris Dittmar comes from a sports-loving family. His father and one of his uncles were active players in Australian football , another uncle, Len, was an Australian welterweight boxing champion. Chris Dittmar attended, among other things, St Michael's College in his hometown of Adelaide in his school career .

Career

During his time with the juniors, he was in the finals of the Squash World Cup in 1980 and 1982 , but lost both games to Peter Nance and Sohail Qaiser . Shortly thereafter, Chris Dittmar began his professional career, during which he won numerous tournaments. Only in the individual world championship did he set an inglorious record: he reached the final of the world championship five times, but, as with the juniors, could not win any of the finals. In 1983 he failed to Jahangir Khan , in 1987 , 1989 , 1990 and 1992 he was defeated by Jansher Khan . No player has reached the final more often without winning one of them. With the Australian national team , he won the world title twice. In July 1993, Chris Dittmar first took the lead in the world rankings, but shortly after ended his professional career, during which he won eight titles and stood in 38 other finals. In 2005 he was inducted into the Squash Australia Hall of Fame .

Since the end of his career as a professional squash player, Chris Dittmar has been working as a sports commentator. At Channel Seven , he commented on Australian football for a long time. He is also a commentator on various radio stations in Adelaide.
