British Academy Film Awards 2005
The 58th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on February 12, 2005 at Odeon Leicester Square , London . The film prizes of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) were awarded in 21 categories, plus three categories of honorary awards, including for the last time a film was awarded the audience award. The event was hosted by British actor and presenter Stephen Fry , who took on this role for the fifth year in a row.

With 14 nominations, Martin Scorsese's Aviator was considered a big favorite in the run-up to the competition and ultimately won most of the evening's awards with four BAFTAs. The film Vera Drake was also able to live up to its role as a favorite with three prizes and eleven nominations. The big losers of the award, however, were Wenn dreams learn to fly and House of Flying Daggers , who received nine and seven nominations respectively.
