Birthday Boy is a 2004 Australian computer-animated short film directed by Sejong Park .
action
Korea 1951: Little boy Manuk plays war in the deserted area. He is looking for a screw in a crashed fighter plane, which he is laying on the rails of the train. He then uses the magnetic, flat-run screw for his toys, which he built out of metal and which include warriors and war vehicles. In the empty streets of his village he imitates an attack and shoots a stone at a cyclist, who then loses control of his bike, falls and reacts angrily.
The boy is running home. Here he finds a package that contains his father's wallet, identification tag and boots. The boy can't yet see that it means his father fell on the front lines. He puts the chain with the dog tag on it, puts on his boots and plays marching. He falls asleep over his toy. A little later you can hear the mother coming home.

Birthday Boy was Sejong Parks' graduation film at the Australian Film Television and Radio School , for which he received his Master of Arts in Digital Media. The computer-animated film had its premiere on June 8, 2004 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy .
Awards
Birthday Boy won an AFI Award from the Australian Film Institute for best animated short film in 2004 and the Yoram Gross Award at the Sydney Film Festival . In 2005 he was awarded a BAFTA for “ Best Animated Short Film ”.
The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Animated Short ” in 2005, but could not prevail against Ryan .
