Sejong Park , Korean 박세종, (* 1966/1967 in Busan ) is a South Korean animator who lives and works in Australia .

Life

Park grew up in South Korea and studied in Seoul , where he later taught art and gained experience in (advertising) illustration and 2D animation. He came to Australia in 1998; he first visited the country in 1994 as part of an English course. He initially worked as an in- betweener on the feature-length animation film Peter Pan: New Adventures in Neverland , which was released in 2002. He also made several short animated films, which, however, remained unpublished.

From 2003, Park studied, among other things, 3D animation and digital media at the Australian Film Television and Radio School , from which he graduated in 2004 with a master's degree. His graduation film was his first 3D animation film, Birthday Boy . By his own admission, Park only studied at AFTRS in order to be able to create the film, the plot of which he had already worked out before starting his studies. Set in Korea in 1951, the film tells of an alleged birthday present that a young boy receives. Park processed memories of his childhood in the film, among other things. Birthday Boy was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Short Film category in 2005.
