history

13th to 16th centuries

Würzelbrunn (also: Wetzelsprunn, Wetzleinsprvnn, Wetzleinsprvnne, Wezelbrunn, Welzelsprun, Wezelprun) was listed in the Lower Bavarian Salbuch . Its residents had to pay 3 mutt grain (rye) and 9 mutt oat taxes annually. This Salbuch comes from the period between 1269 and 1320. The following localities belonging to Floß were named in this directory: Bergnetsreuth, Boxdorf, Diepoltsreuth, Ellenbach, Gösen, Grafenreuth, Hardt, Haupertsreuth, Kalmreuth, Niedernfloß, Oberndorf, Pauschendorf, Ritzlersreuth, Schlattein, Schönberg, Weikersmühle, Welsenhof, Würnreuth, Würzelbrunn.

Würzelbrunn was also mentioned in the Bohemian Salbüchlein . Its residents had to pay 3 mutt grain, 9 mutt oat taxes annually. The Böhmisches Salbüchlein contained records from the period from 1366 to 1373 for all the places that were mentioned in the Lower Bavarian Salbuch cited above and also Plankenhammer as hamer zu Mekenhofen .

Würzelbrunn was recorded in the Salbuch from 1416/1440. The following 6 farming families in Würzelbrunn were named: Frännzel, Hannß, Krauss, Kainz Baur, Vlerich Krauss, Burger. As a crowd service they had to plow, back wood, cut, fertilize and load manure when asked. The annual taxes for the 6 farms together amounted to 6 eight liters of grain, 24 eight liters of oats, 24 cheese, 180 eggs, 2 bowls of oil, 6 chickens. Cash had to be paid by the 6 farmers together at Walburgi and on Michelstag 4 pounds 4 shillings.

17th century

During the Thirty Years' War in 1620 and 1621 the Mansfeld soldiers marched through Würzelbrunn. They robbed the farmers of money, cattle, grain, food, clothing, linen, beds, copper pans and pots, tools, weapons, etc., fished the ponds, and burned and destroyed the farms. 6 horses, 7 oxen, 16 cows, 9 young cattle, 14 pigs, 84 sheep, 28 lambs, 7 goats were robbed of cattle in Würzelbrunn. A damage list for Würzelbrunn from 1621 showed a total of 1077 guilders and 59 cruisers.

In 1650 the hereditary homage to Count Palatinate of Palatinate-Sulzbach Christian August took place in the courtyard of the Friedrichsburg in Vohenstrauss . Würzelbrunn appears on the homage list with the 6 farm owners: Adam Minchmeyher, Michael Beer der älder, Hannß Lang, Partl Fraaß, Michael Beer the Younger, Linhardt Fickher.

In 1652 Würzelbrunn is described with 6 half yards. Its inhabitants at that time were 6 married couples with 16 children. The cattle consisted of 12 oxen, 9 cows, 7 young cattle, 5 pigs, 1 goat.

18th century to the present

A description by the Princely Nursing Office Floßerbürg from 1704 recorded 6 teams, 1 rear seat , 1 yard for Würzelbrunn .

In a historical-statistical description of the Floß maintenance office from 1794, 6 farmers, 1 shepherd, a total of 58 inhabitants were listed for Würzelbrunn.

By 1800 Würzelbrunn had 7 houses and 52 residents.

Würzelbrunn belonged to the tax district and the Schönbrunn rural community , which were formed at the beginning of the 19th century. In addition to Schönbrunn, the Schönbrunn tax district also included the villages of Hardt and Haupertsreuth and the hamlet of Würzelbrunn. The Schönbrunn tax district had a total of 241 residents and 34 residential buildings.

The rural community Schönbrunn consisted of the villages Schönbrunn, Boxdorf, Hardt and Haupertsreuth and the hamlets of Kühbach and Würzelbrunn. The village of Würzelbrunn had 49 inhabitants and 7 residential buildings in 1817, 57 inhabitants in 1861 and 36 inhabitants and 8 residential buildings in 1961.

On January 1, 1972, the community of Schönbrunn and thus also Würzelbrunn was incorporated into the Floß market.
