Schlattein is part of the Floß market in the Upper Palatinate district in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district .

Geographical location

Schlattein is about four kilometers north of Floß in the headwaters of the Schlatteinbach 500 meters east of the state road 2181 . To the east of Schlattein there is an extensive forest area, the Wildenauer Wald and the Steinbruck. On its western edge there is a mountain range that surrounds Schlattein from the east. From north to south: Kohlbühl (568 m), Tannenbühl (605 m), Haustein (617 m), Greil (593 m), Geierholz (554 m).

Surname

The name Schlattein (also: Slatin, Slattin, Slaeten, Schleyttein, Sletein, Schlaytein) comes from the Slavic word Slatina = swamp area. This place name indicates the early Slavic settlement between 500 and 900 AD.

history

13th and 14th centuries

The first documentary mention of Schlattein comes from the year 1261. In a document Ludwig Pfalzgraf near Rhine and Duke in Bavaria confirmed the patronage right to Erlbach (= Ellenbach), Uelsenreuth (= Ilsenbach) and Geizen (= Gosen) to Abbot Johann of the Waldsassen monastery. and tithe in Slattin (= Schlattein).

Schlattein was listed in the Lower Bavarian Salbuch . Its residents had to pay 16 mutt grain (rye) and 12 mutt oat taxes annually. This Salbuch comes from the period between 1269 and 1320. The following localities belonging to Floß were named in this directory: Bergnetsreuth, Boxdorf, Diepoltsreuth, Ellenbach, Gösen, Grafenreuth, Hardt, Haupertsreuth, Kalmreuth, Niedernfloß, Oberndorf, Pauschendorf, Ritzlersreuth, Schlattein, Schönberg, Weikersmühle, Welsenhof, Würnreuth, Würzelbrunn.

Schlattein was also called in the Bohemian Salbüchlein . Wolfhart Lengenuelder was named as the owner of 8 farms in Schlattein. Its residents had to pay 48 cheese, 360 eggs, 8 chickens, 16 mutt grain (rye) and 32 eight liters of oats a year. The Böhmisches Salbüchlein contained records from the period from 1366 to 1373 for all the places that were mentioned in the Lower Bavarian Salbuch cited above and also Plankenhammer as hamer zu Mekenhofen .

15th to 17th centuries

Schlattein is recorded in the Salbuch from 1416/1440. Schlattein was sold to Lengenfelder by Duke Friedrich for 16 silver marks . This sold Schlattein to the Sternstain. This Salbuch, with information about the localities belonging to Floß, dates from the period 1416 to 1440. 18th century to the present

A handicraft table from 1800 gave information about the number of master craftsmen, journeymen and apprentices in the office raft. There was 1 master linen weaver in Schlattein.

By 1800 Schlattein had 19 houses and 119 residents.

At the beginning of the 19th century the tax district and the rural community Schlattein were formed. In addition to Schlattein, the hamlet of Ellenbach also belonged to the Schlattein tax district. The Schlattein tax district had a total of 186 residents and 27 residential buildings. In Schlattein there was a chapel and a private brewery, 3 weavers, a beer payer, a butcher and a blacksmith.

The immediate rural community Schlattein consisted of the villages Kalmreuth and Schlattein, the hamlets Auerberg and Ellenbach and the wasteland Geiermühle.

The village of Schlattein had 124 inhabitants and 20 residential buildings in 1817, 129 inhabitants in 1861 and 71 inhabitants and 19 residential buildings in 1961.

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Schlattein was incorporated into the Floß market.
