Claxton Castle
Claxton Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Claxton , about 13 km southeast of Norwich in the English county of Norfolk .
The royal permission to fortify a house (English: License to Crenellate) was given by Edward III. William de Kerdiston 1333. The castle was then built using brick . Most of it was destroyed in the 17th century when Claxton Hall was built. Parts of its outer walls with five bastions , traces of two moats and earth walls have been preserved to this day.
The ruin is a Scheduled Monument and English Heritage has it as a Historic Building II *. Grade listed.
