Award winners and nominations

In the run-up to the event, no film had been able to establish itself as a clear favorite. Sydney Pollack's Tootsie led the field of favorites with nine nominations ahead of James Ivorys Heat and Dust with eight and Bill Forsyth's Local Hero with seven nominations. Most of the awards received, however, Rita finally wants to know with three BAFTAs; Woody Allens Zelig came away empty-handed despite five nominations.
