Greta Scacchi (born February 18, 1960 in Milan ) is an Italian - Australian actress .

Life

Greta Scacchi grew up bilingual as the daughter of an English dancer and an Italian painter. When she was four years old, her parents separated. She moved to England with her mother and brothers, where they first lived in London and from 1966 in Haywards Heath ( West Sussex ). When her mother remarried in 1975, the family moved to Australia with Scacchi's stepfather ; there she worked as a cowgirl and as an Italian translator.

Having received ballet lessons as a child, she returned to London at the age of eighteen and began training at Bristol Old Vic in 1978 . Scacchi then played smaller roles in various theaters and worked as an advertising model.

She made her film debut in 1982 in the horror film The Second Face , directed by Dominik Graf . In the same year, her first major film role followed on the side of Julie Christie in the literary film adaptation Heat and Dust . Her breakthrough came in 1985 with her role in the comedy Coca Cola Kid .

In 1990 Scacchi moved to Los Angeles because she wanted to establish herself in Hollywood . Her first role in a Hollywood film was in Alan J. Pakula's court-martialed thriller For Lack of Evidence . This was followed by roles in, among other things, Wolfgang Petersen 's second Hollywood film Death in the Mirror , in Robert Altman's comedy The Player and in the drama Der Schlangenkuss .

From 1989 Scacchi was in a relationship with the actor Vincent D'Onofrio , married from 1991 to 1993. From this marriage comes their daughter Leila George , who was born in Australia in 1992.
