The Terror is an American drama - and horror - anthology series that combines the horror of real historical events with fictional horror elements. The first season, which in Dan Simmons ' novel terror is based, had on 25 March 2018 the United States at AMC Premiere and internationally since March 26, 2018. Prime Video from Amazon released. The second season, named Terror: Infamy (in German: Schande ) after the Infamy Speech by Franklin D. The first season The Terror is based on the original novel of the same name by Dan Simmons from 2007, which in turn deals with the actual expedition of the HMS Erebus and the HMS Terror (see Franklin Expedition ), supplemented by fantastic elements.
It is the year 1846. The two British ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror are to explore the waters north of Canada on behalf of the Royal Navy . Your goal is to find a so-called Northwest Passage , a sea route that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean north of the American continent . When the two ships get stuck in the pack ice , the crew is attacked by an unknown being in the form of a giant polar bear . The expedition becomes a struggle for survival for the crew.
season 2
The second season deals with the internment of Japanese Americans during the Second World War , which lead actor George Takei experienced himself in his childhood, who therefore also acts as a historical advisor. Infamy is derived from the Infamy Speech given by Franklin D. Roosevelt on December 8, 1941 in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor . With this theme, the season should consciously feel “relevant to the current situation”, which means the imprisonment of illegally immigrated children in camps .
The season begins in 1941, when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurs on December 7th, which now puts all Japanese in the USA under general suspicion and deportations take place. The plot follows a father - immigrated from Japan - and a son - born in America - from a Japanese-American community on Terminal Island off California . The community and the internment camp are ravaged by a Yūrei .
Production and broadcast
The Terror is a production by Scott Free Productions and Entertainment 360 for cable broadcaster AMC . The series was developed by David Kajganich based on Dan Simmons ' novel Terror . As Executive Producer, Kajganich served as the showrunner of the series along with Soo Hugh . Other executive producers were Ridley Scott , David W. Zucker, Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert and Guymon Casady .
Ten episodes were produced, the first of which was broadcast on March 25, 2018 as a preview on AMC, before the series started a day later. Previously, the first two episodes were shown on February 21, 2018 at the Berlinale 2018 in the OmeU . A German version was also published on March 26, 2018 on Amazon's video-on-demand service Prime Video .
Although the first season is a completed literary film adaptation, the series had already been ordered and announced as an anthology series if the first season was successful. On June 22, 2018, the new theme for the second season was announced. Production began on February 14, 2019 in Vancouver . According to set designer Jonathan McKinstry, the internment camp in the series was largely modeled after the Manzanar War Relocation Center . Lead actor George Takei, who himself was imprisoned in internment camps, worked as an advisor with the producers to ensure the accuracy of the historical events depicted. Derek Mio reports that the season is very personal to him because his grandfather was deported from Terminal Island - the location of the action - to Manzanar.
The first episode of the second season was released in the USA on August 12 and in Germany on August 16, 2019.

| September 1846: The ships Erebus and Terror are looking for a navigable passage through the Arctic. As winter approaches and pack ice appears, the Erebus is damaged and its onward journey is impaired. Francis Crozier, captain of the Terror , pleads for abandoning the Erebus and heading for a safe wintering place with the Terror . But Sir John Franklin, the leader of the expedition, believes he is close to the goal and insists on the journey. Then they get stuck in the pack ice. | ||||||||

| Eight months later, the two ships are still stuck in the pack ice. Captain John Franklin sends two scouting teams to find vacancies in the ice. | In June 1847 the ships are still trapped in the ice. Captain Crozier suggests that Franklin send a squad to get help. But Captain Franklin rejects this proposal and hopes for better weather. Meanwhile, a handful of soldiers have laid bait and taken up position in a hiding place to shoot the unknown creature. When Captain Franklin visits her, the hiding place is attacked by the creature. Franklin and a soldier are killed. Crozier then takes command and sends the rescue team out. In the meantime, the Inuit daughter “Lady Silence” has left the ship and built an igloo away from her . | When other crew members are injured and killed by the creature, boatswain Hickey decides on his own initiative with two other comrades to kidnap Lady Silence and bring her to the terror. Hickey believes that she is responsible for the creature's appearance. Crozier then has the three men flogged for disobedience. At the same time, Crozier informs the crew that the terror is in danger because the ship is lying on a press ridge. A large part of the terrorist crew then moves to the Erebus. | ||||||||

| A month later, Harry Goodsir, Dr. Stanley, still gaining the trust of Lady Silence. During an interrogation by Captain Crozier, it turns out that the Inuit call the creature "Tuunbaq". In the meantime, the Tuunbaq attacks the crew again. Through the use of ice master Thomas Blanky, the creature is injured by a cannon shot and retreats. During the confusing situation in which Blanky loses his leg, Lady Silence escapes from the ship. Captain Crozier hands over the command to James Fitzjames after an argument broke out between the two because Crozier had whiskey bottles stolen for his drinking. | January 1848: After the crew's morale deteriorates and supplies have to be rationed, Captain Fitzjames decides to give up the Terror and Erebus in order to walk to the nearest outpost. In order to get the message across as gently as possible, Fitzjames has a tent erected for a carnival on the ice. In the meantime Goodsir discovers that the strange complaints of some crew members can be traced back to the leaded food from the cans . He asks Dr. Stanley to act, but this fears panic among the men. Lady Silence summons the Tuunbaq to accept her as a shaman instead of her father and returns to the ships. Crozier, who has since survived alcohol withdrawal, announces Fitzjames' plan at the carnival. Meanwhile, Dr. Stanley exits the tent, sets it on fire, and sets itself on fire. | On April 22nd, 1848, the Terror and Erebus crews set off for the next outpost. Part of the team discovered the bodies of the rescue team sent last summer. In order not to deprive his men of hope of rescue, Captain Crozier decides not to inform the rest of the crew about it. Meanwhile, Hickey plans a mutiny and finds out that the canned food is poisoned. As more and more men began to suffer from the symptoms of lead poisoning , Crozier dispatched troops to hunt game. During the hunt, Hickey comes across a group of Netsilik- Inuit along with Lieutenant Irving and Sailor Farr . Irving contacts them and they feed him. | Hickey kills the Inuit group and returns to the camp, where he claims the Inuit killed his comrades. Captain Crozier sets out with his staff and Hickey to investigate the scene and sends Lady Silence away. Meanwhile, fog is gathering in the camp and the crew armed themselves against Crozier's instructions, because they feared an attack by the Inuit. When Crozier returns, he orders those responsible to be found. During the autopsy on Irving, Goodsir finds seal meat in the stomach, which allows Crozier to prove to the crew that Hickey lied. Crozier has Sergeant Tozer, who was in charge of handing over the guns, and Hickey arrested. Shortly before the two can be hanged, the Tuunbaq attacks the assembled crew. | Hickey and Captain Crozier's groups go their separate ways. After stabbing a battered comrade, Hickey orders Goodsir to dismantle the body so they can eat it. Many men are dying in Crozier's group, including Fitzjames. Blanky breaks up with Crozier to lure the Tuunbaq through his decaying leg. By chance he discovered the Northwest Passage and was killed by the Tuunbaq. Crozier and three of his men are lured into a trap by Hickey by a comrade. Crozier offers to exchange, hands over the command to Edward Little and goes with Hickey's men. | ||||||||

| At Hickey's camp, Crozier learns from Goodsir that he will be forced to eat human flesh. He is only supposed to eat the soles of Goodsir's feet because he has poisoned himself. Finally Goodsir cuts his wrists. Crozier's men decide to go on without the sick. Hickey and his men want to kill the Tuunbaq and lure him. When the creature shows up, it kills everyone and dies. Crozier survives the attack and is found by Lady Silence, who frees him from his chains and helps him get to his feet. On their way to the Inuit camp, Crozier sees that all of his men are dead. In the camp he learns that her name is Silna and that she is being cast out because the Tuunbaq has lost and is dead. Two years later: On their search for the Franklin expedition, two British people came to the Iniut camp in September 1850. Crozier, who now lives with the Inuit, asks the chief to tell them that all the men are dead, that there is no north-west passage and that they should leave the place. | Ms. Furuya committed suicide in the Japanese-American community on Terminal Island in 1941 . Bad omens pile up at her funeral and from then on mysterious incidents begin to take place in the community. Among other things, her widower, Mr. Furuya, who hit her, suddenly cannot take his eyes off the sunlight and goes blind. Henry Nakayama is a fisherman who is underpaid and mistreated by his foreman Grichuk. When Grichuk gets into a machine, Nakayama saves his life, but the accident costs Grichuk his job and in return, he demands Nakayama's car by threatening to slander him as a spy . | Henry Nakayama, Furuya, and the elder Yamato have been deported to an unnamed camp. Yuko appears to the blind Furuya, whom he does not recognize. After two inmates disappear, Yamato suspects the presence of an Obake and suspects the good-humored Nick Okada. Makayama, who repeatedly “I'm not a spy. I am a simple fisherman. He has the plan to take her across the state border, and initially comes to stay with his professor with her, but is picked up by the FBI shortly afterwards after being reported by the neighbor.
