The awakening of the Zodiac Killer is a feature film from the year 2017 by Jonathan Wright . In the first excerpt you can see the reenactment of the events of the first known murder of the so-called Zodiac murderer on December 20, 1968. He is shown quite true to the facts, so that, for example, the victim Betty Lou Jensen is shot a few meters away from the car while trying to escape. Then the strip jumps to the "present day" - and the focus is on the young couple Zoe & Mick Branson. Financially they are in bad shape, they live in a trailer and earn money cutting their hair and mowing the lawn. Mick reports that he and his buddy Harvey bought items from a sale of a rented warehouse that was not paid for on time for $ 1200. When they get to the pawnbroker Harvey to look at the auctioned items, he is already waiting impatiently to show them the piece of jewelry - a video recording of the first murder of the Zodiac murderer. As a result of the fact that 100,000 dollars for clues that are exposed as a reward for grabbing the Zodiac, all three are now starting to search for clues and try to solve the cryptograms that have not yet been decrypted . Zoe gets into the pre-1980 edition of the local library's only department and they find out who rented the warehouse. They break into Benjamin's house, who catches them red-handed. After initial deliberations as to whether this was the perpetrator, they come to the conclusion that it could not be him. When Mick and Zoe get Harvey's message that he has solved the cryptogram, they drive to him, but cannot find him anywhere. Zoe drives after Harvey's car, which she suspects to be in. In the vehicle, however, is the Zodiac who locks her in a cage in his hiding place. Mick finds the murderer's home and a firefight ensues, in which he is injured. Zoe can free herself from the cage and together they manage to overpower her adversary.
