AMC Networks Inc. is an American media company that was founded in 1980 as Rainbow Media Holdings , LLC. Founded. In 2011 the name was changed to AMC Networks. The company's headquarters are in Penn Plaza, New York .

AMC Networks includes the pay TV channels : AMC , Sundance Channel , IFC , WEtv and the marketing of BBC America (AMC itself holds 49.9% of BBC America). The company also operates the IFC Center film art cinema in New York and a film studio for independent films called IFC Films .

In 2014, AMC Networks acquired Chellomedia from Liberty Global for a purchase price of around $ 1 billion. Chellomedia and its subsidiaries, including Chello Benelux, have been operating as AMC Networks International since July 2014 .

The company is majority- controlled by Charles F. Dolan .
