It is the weakest film start of a film that has been released in over 300 cinemas since the animated film Molly Monster per year 2016.

Reviews

The film received scathing reviews on the occasion of its theatrical release. Rex Reed in The New York Observer called him a "superfluous remake", "exaggerated, annoying and as funny as a root canal treatment without anesthesia" and speculated that at the end of the film the viewer might think like Amadeus that he had lost his memory. Los Angeles Times critic Gary Goldstein called it "an overly long mess made by someone with misguided creative instincts" and said it was "no wonder Warner hid the film from critics until the last minute." The New York Times criticized a "bizarre plot" and "shrill performances by the actors".

Director Schweiger commented on the reviews as "targeted executions" that were responsible for the film's failure. Schweiger had "wondered what kind of film the critics saw". The American audience reacted “just as it did in Germany. They laughed and cried ”. He described the failure of the film as the “low point” of his work to date.

The trade magazines Cinema and TV Spielfilm stated on the occasion of the theatrical release in Germany: “If you don't know honey in your head , you will be entertained originally, so to speak. For everyone else, the news value is low ”.

The Hamburger Morgenpost asked itself under the heading “Seen everything before”, “Why should I look at this again?”. When casting Matilda, "the minors were looking for family ties rather than a strong acting solution." It is also questionable "why so much German funding goes into an English-language remake."

Sidney Schering from Oddsmeter.de also saw the film critically. So he was dissatisfied with the equipment of the film ("Schweiger continues to hold on to his distinctive look, which admittedly has a certain homeliness for baked rolls. (...) But what was still refreshing in barefoot and no-ear rabbits has now become stale") and the film editing , which has "worsened massively over the years" with Schweiger. So be Head Full of Honey "again cut a trail more aggressive than its predecessor," remained "on track" so feelings. Schweiger “just stubbornly re-shot his film”, with the result “Nolte's way of playing the role rubs against the script”.
