action

Since the moderately successful screenwriter Henry broke up with his girlfriend Katharina, he has been at a personal and creative low point. The only thing he manages is the script for the television series “ Der Forster vom Spreewald ”, which is finally canceled due to a lack of viewers. When, thanks to his agent, he is made the unexpected offer to work on the adaptation of the bestselling novel “Freiflug”, he finally has the opportunity to fundamentally change his life. However, the author with whom he is supposed to work on the script is his ex-girlfriend Katharina.

When eight-year-old Magdalena turns up, his life is finally out of joint: In a letter that the little girl has with her, it says that Magdalena is Henry's biological daughter. Until her mother Charlotte returns from a court hearing in New York , Magdalena is said to be living with Henry. He has no idea how to deal with children and wants to bring Magdalena back to her foster father Tristan. However, he refuses to take Magdalena back because he has to overcome the shock of not being her birth father and his marriage to Charlotte is about to end.

Tristan also demands that Henry take responsibility for his daughter. Henry is hopelessly overwhelmed with the overall situation. He therefore tries to explain to Magdalena that he is her father. While working on the script, he developed feelings for Katharina again and his relationship with Magdalena intensified. However, he cannot bring himself to tell Katharina about Magdalena, since she was conceived while he was still with Katharina. When the suspicious Katharina unexpectedly visits him at home, she meets Magdalena and learns the truth from her. Disappointed and hurt by Henry's behavior, she leaves him and ends her professional collaboration with him.

To make matters worse, Tristan suddenly demands his daughter back. Henry becomes painfully aware of how much Magdalena means to him. There is a conflict between the two men. He tries to express his feelings with the help of a script he calls "Kokowääh". He sends it to Katharina so that she can understand how he feels. After reading the script, she meets with Henry and makes up with him. Together they continue to work on the script.

Meanwhile, Charlotte has returned from New York. She makes a compromise to keep Magdalena both fathers.

Reviews

This section consists only of a cunning collection of quotes from movie reviews. Instead, a summary of the reception of the film should be provided as continuous text, which can also include striking quotations, see also the explanations in the film format .

“Til Schweiger has written a blended family comedy for himself: easy, entertaining, without depth. […] Schweiger does not attach any importance to the after-pains caused by the cuckoo child. And when things come to a head because the horned husband wants the daughter back, Schweiger ironed out the conflict like a crumpled shirt: let off some steam and everything went smoothly again. The film distances itself from problematizing the blended family. Is the director lacking courage? Schweiger is reminiscent of a child who only wants dessert. "

- Andreas Scheiner - The time

"How" Kokowääh "belongs to the kind of film in which the plot is crystal clear from the start. Only the moments of delay that are built in on the way to the happy ending create tension: humorous staged catastrophes that remain pleasantly without consequences, and many, many scenes in which Emma Schweiger is allowed to show her little girl charm. [...] Emma develops so much charm that one forgets the smeary jokes in the script and abandons oneself to the feel-good effect that Schweigers celebrate with many mood sequences: cut scenes with laughing, nudging people eating ice cream and boating, on green meadows and in a cozy atmosphere furnished living rooms, underlaid with lively pop songs. "

- Barbara Schweizerhof - The daily newspaper

“In a few days, the child-hostile egoist Henry will become an understanding, loving father who works miracles for a missing plush donkey. [...] The mother urgently had to go to the USA, so she couldn't think of anything better for her daughter than to secretly drop her off with her birth father, whom the girl had never seen before. [...] You have to accept such leaps in logic and one-dimensional drawn figures in "Kokowääh". "

- Andrea Burtz - WDR

"What do you have against this beautiful story, you do-gooder, you can hear Schweiger's admirers say: You will probably still be allowed to film that little messy girls are totally cute, women often look totally sexy and Til Schweiger devours them all ! Nothing. Unfortunately, the film looks like a commercial for yoghurt, home savings or coffee pods over long periods. "

- Jan Füchtjohann - Süddeutsche Zeitung
