Even before it was broadcast, the series was extended by a second season, which in turn consists of ten episodes and is set four years after the end of the plot of season one. The producer Claude Chelli announced in an interview in September 2016 that the scripts for the third season had already been written and that the shooting of season 3 should start in April 2017. The second season aired on Sky Atlantic on June 5, 2017. The third and final season had its German premiere on October 3, 2018.

content

The series is about the life of the young Louis XIV at the court of Versailles .

background

"Versailles" is the largest TV series ever shot in Europe. With a budget of 30 million euros for the first season (ten episodes), the production of the French channel Canal + is also at the top of the most expensive TV productions in an international comparison.

The creative minds David Wolstencroft ( The Devil's Lawyer ( The Escape Artist )) and Helen Mirren's nephew Simon Mirren ( Without a Trace ) are responsible for the scripts. The first season was directed by Jalil Lespert ( Yves Saint Laurent ), Christoph Schrewe, Thomas Vincent and Daniel Roby.

The decision to shoot the series on the original location in France, but in English, caused heated debates among the French. But the producers justified this with the fact that the high production costs of 30 million euros could only be covered with international participation.

Cast and dubbing

The German-language dubbed version of the series is being produced at Scalamedia GmbH in Berlin, directed by Erik Paulsen, who also writes the dialogue book.
