Amira Casar (born May 1, 1971 in London ) is a British - French actress .

Life

Casar is the daughter of a Kurd and a Russian singer. She grew up in England and Ireland . As a teenager she was discovered by Helmut Newton and moved to Paris , where she worked as a model for Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier , among others . She began studying acting at the Cours Florent in 1989 and graduated from the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in 1991 .

She made her acting debut in the French drama Youth Sin (1989). The short film Départ immédiat (1996), in which she took on one of the two roles, was awarded a special prize at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 1996. For her role in the comedy Lies Have Short Skirts (1997), she was nominated for a César in 1998 .

In the comedy When We Are Grown Up (2000) Casar took on a leading role. She played one of the four main roles - alongside Sabine Azéma , Daniel Auteuil and Sergi López - in the comedy Malen oder Lieben from 2005. In the same year she played the opera singer Malvina van Stille in the fantasy film drama The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes , the scientist Dr. Emmanuel Droz ( Gottfried John ) was killed and her body was then taken over by Dr. Droz is stolen. The crime film Coupable (2008), in which she also played a major role, celebrated its world premiere in February 2008 at the Berlin International Film Festival .

Casar also works as a stage actress. In 2006 she was a jury member for the Angers Film Festival .
