Harry Frederick Gerard Hadden-Paton (born April 10, 1981 in Westminster , London , England ) is a British actor .
life and career
Harry Hadden-Paton is one of four children of former cavalry officer Nigel Hadden-Paton. His godmother is Sarah Ferguson , Duchess of York and divorced wife of Prince Andrew . Hadden-Paton attended Eton College and the University of Durham before studying drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art .
After graduating from the Academy in 2006, he was able to establish himself as a prominent theater actor. He played in productions of Romeo and Juliet , The Importance of Being Earnest and Prince Friedrich von Homburg , among others . Similar to his origins, Haddon-Paton often embodies characters from the British upper class and aristocracy, not infrequently in historical material. In 2018 he made his debut at New York's Broadway in the Vivian Beaumont Theater as Professor Henry Higgins in a new production of My Fair Lady , his performance earned him a nomination for a Tony Award as Best Actor in a musical one.
Parallel to the stage, he took on his first smaller film roles, for example in the Oscar-winning biopic La vie en rose (2007) with Marion Cotillard as Édith Piaf and alongside Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston in The Deep Blue Sea (2011) directed by Terence Davies . One of his most memorable roles Hadden-Paton played from 2014 as Herbert "Bertie" Pelham on the hit television series Downton Abbey , this figure he played again in the same movie from 2019. In the first two seasons of the Netflix series The Crown was he in a supporting role as Baron Martin Charteris - longtime private secretary of Queen Elizabeth II . At the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2017 , Hadden-Paton was nominated twice for The Crown and Downton Abbey in the category Best Acting Company in a TV Series - Drama , but both series were subject to Stranger Things in the end . Hadden-Paton has been married to fellow actress Rebecca Night since 2010 , and the couple have two children.
