Gianni Quaranta

Gianni Quaranta (born August 30, 1943 in Arsiè , Belluno province , Italy ) is an Italian art director and production designer who has won an Oscar , twice the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award), a César and twice the Nastro d'Argento des Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (SNGCI) won.

Life

Quaranta began his career as art director and production designer in 1971 for the film Sacco e Vanzetti and worked on over forty films by 2009.

In 1974 he was together with Lorenzo Mongiardino and Carmelo Patrono for the Oscar for best production design in the film Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972) by Franco Zeffirelli with Graham Faulkner , Judi Bowker and Leigh Lawson .

In 1978 he won his first Nastro d'Argento for the best production design in Jesus of Nazareth (1977) by Franco Zeffirelli with Robert Powell , Anne Bancroft and Ernest Borgnine .

He received another Oscar nomination for best production design together with Franco Zeffirelli in 1983 for the film adaptation of La Traviata (1982) by Franco Zeffirelli with Teresa Stratas and Plácido Domingo . For these films, he and Zeffirelli also won the BAFTA Film Award for best production design and the Nastro d'Argento, the Silver Ribbon of the Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (SNGCI).

At the Academy Awards in 1987 , he and Brian Ackland-Snow , Brian Savegar and Elio Altramura won the Oscar for best production design in the film Zimmer mit Aussicht (1985) by James Ivory with Maggie Smith , Helena Bonham, based on the EM Forster novel of the same name Carter and Denholm Elliott in the lead roles . In addition, he and Quaranta received the BAFTA Film Award in 1987 for best production design.

For the production design in the film Farinelli (1994) by Gérard Corbiau with Stefano Donisi , Enrico Lo Verso and Elsa Zylberstein , he won the César for the best production design at the 1995 César award and was also for this film for the David di Donatello for the best production design nominated.
