Brian Savegar
Brian Savegar (born July 24, 1932 in Abergavenny , Wales ; † March 31, 2007 ) was a British art director and set designer who won an Oscar for best production design and an Emmy for outstanding art direction.
Life
After attending school, Savegar studied art at the Cardiff School of Art & Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University . He began his career as art director and production designer for the film Babylon in 1981 and was involved in the production of over twenty films and television series until 2002 .
At the Academy Awards in 1987 , he and Gianni Quaranta , Brian Ackland-Snow and Elio Altramura won the Oscar for best production design in the film Zimmer mit Aussicht (1985) by James Ivory with Maggie Smith , Helena Bonham, based on the EM Forster novel of the same name Carter and Denholm Elliott in the lead roles .
In 1991, together with John C. Mula and Kevin Pfeiffer, he won an Emmy for outstanding art direction in the episode The Mating Dance of the full-body doll television series The Dinos, produced by the ABC between 1991 and 1994, based on an idea by Jim Henson .
Savegar was also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a representative of the professional group of art directors .
