Brian Ackland-Snow

Brian Ackland-Snow (born March 31, 1940 in London - † March 30, 2013 ) was a British art director and production designer who won an Oscar and a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best production design and an Emmy .

Life

Ackland-Snow began his career as art director and production designer in 1962 for the film The Road to Hong Kong (The Road to Hong Kong) and was involved in the staging of over forty films until 2002.

At the Academy Awards in 1987 , he and Gianni Quaranta , Brian Savegar and Elio Altramura won the Oscar for best production design in the film Zimmer mit Aussicht (1985) by James Ivory with Maggie Smith , Helena Bonham Carter and based on the EM Forster novel of the same name Denholm Elliott in the lead roles . In addition, he and Quaranta received the BAFTA Film Award in 1987 for best production design .

In 1995 he won an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction with Rodger Maus, Josie MacAvin and Joseph Litsch in the first part of the television series Scarlett (1994) with Joanne Whalley , Timothy Dalton and Stephen Collins, produced by the CBS .

His children Andrew Ackland-Snow and Amanda Ackland-Snow followed in his professional footsteps and are also active as art and production designers.
