Michael L. Fink

Michael "Mike" L. Fink is a special effects artist, in 2008 for The Golden Compass the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects received.

Life

He studied business administration at California State University, Northridge until 1966 , before serving in the US Army until 1968 . He then worked in San Francisco as an investment manager. From 1971 to 1973 he did a Bachelor of Arts at the Art Institute of San Francisco and from 1973 to 1975 a Master of Fine Arts at the California Institute of the Arts . In 1977 he worked for the first time at The China Syndrome for the film industry. This was followed by Star Trek: The Movie , The Blade Runner and WarGames - war games , for which he first worked as a VFX supervisor . In the following years he was involved in films such as Buckaroo Banzai - The 8th Dimension , A Bird on a Wire and Batman's Return , for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects .

In 1993 he directed the first polar bear commercial for Coca-Cola . In 1995 he built for the Warner Brothers Studios , the Warner Digital Studios on. Films like Mars Attacks followed! , Road to Perdition and The Golden Compass , for which he received the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects together with Bill Westenhofer , Ben Morris and Trevor Wood in his second Oscar nomination . He currently works at Prime Focus, Ltd. He is co-founder of the Visual Effects Society , lives in Los Angeles, is married with one son.
