Erlach am Main is a district of Neustadt am Main in the Main-Spessart district in Bavaria .

The place is on the left bank of the Main at 152  m above sea level. NN on the MSP 23 district road between Pflochsbach and Ansbach . The MSP 23 district road ends in Erlach am Main.

Surname

etymology

The name Erlach consists of the Old High German words erl and lahha and means "a swamp overgrown with alders ". A similar root can be found in Rorinlacha , the original place name of Neustadt. The addition on the Main distinguishes Erlach from other places of the same name.

history

In 1862 the district office Lohr am Main was formed, on whose administrative area Erlach was located. In 1871 Erlach came to the Marktheidenfeld district office on the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices and returned to the Lohr district office on January 1, 1880. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Erlach was now one of the 26 communities in the Lohr am Main district . With the dissolution of the Lohr district, Erlach came to the newly formed Main-Spessart district in 1972 .

The previously independent municipality was incorporated into Neustadt am Main on May 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
