Joel Hynek

Joel Hynek is a VFX Supervisor , the 1999 Beyond the horizon the Oscar in the category visual effects best received.

Life

He is the son of astronomer J. Allen Hynek and has two siblings. From 1971 to 1974 he studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . In the year he worked for the film Xanadu for the first time in the field of special effects. This was followed by films such as Zelig , Der Tag des Falken and Predator for the special effects company R / Greenberg Associates , for which he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1988 together with Robert M. Greenberg, Richard Greenberg and Stan Winston . In the following years worked for companies like Manex, Mass Illusions, R / Greenberg Associates and The Trumbull Company on feature films like Ghost Dad , Medicine Man - The Last Days of Eden and Event Horizon - On the Edge of the Universe . In 1999 he received the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Behind the Horizon .

In 2000 he moved to Digital Domain as head of visual effects , for which he worked on xXx - Triple X and The Italian Job - Hunt for Millions in the following years . Since 2009 he has been with the Los Angeles office of the Indian special effects company Tata Elxsi.

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society .
