Life

Rosa Bauer was born the last of five children to a miner's family. Her father died in 1933 and she lived with mother and siblings in great need. Rosa graduated from elementary school and took a job as a domestic help.

She married in 1946, later lost her own child and adopted a foster child. From 1960 she worked in the administration of the Miesbach hospital, where she trained as a medical assistant. In 1967 the family moved to Unterhaching, where Rosa Bauer worked as a doctor's assistant for a resident doctor.

For health reasons, Rosa Bauer resigned her honorary posts as district councilor and chairwoman of the local AWO association in 1998. She continued to exercise her office as councilor and social officer for the Unterhaching community.

She was buried on January 22nd, 2014 in the cemetery in Unterhaching, with great sympathy from the population.

Political commitment

In 1977 she joined the SPD . In the local elections in the spring of 1978 she was elected to the Unterhaching municipal council, of which she was a member until 2002. She was a member of the district council of the district of Munich from 1968 to 1990 and from 1993 to spring 1998.

social commitment

In 1980 she took over the chairmanship of the local workers' welfare. In the period from 1980 to 1997, the number of AWO members increased from around 50 to around 300 people. It was certified that it was "not just the engine, but the heart of this institution."

She was particularly interested in the children and old people in Unterhaching, in the Munich district and in Croatia .

In the former war zone in Croatia she set up a home for deaf and dumb children and delivered a total of 7.5 tons of relief supplies to the region there. It was important to Rosa Bauer that she was actively supported in her social commitment in Croatia. "It would not have been possible without the help of other people."
