Ghost Dad (Alternative title: Ghost Dad - news of Papa , Bill Cosby: Our dad is a ghost ) is an American comedy film of Sidney Poitier in the year 1990 .
action
The widower Elliot Hopper has no time for his three children. He is considered a workaholic and is the only African American to work in a management position in a large, reputable company. Hopper gets into a taxi. The driver turns out to be a devil worshiper. He mistakenly thinks Elliot is Satan and panics. The taxi comes off the road and falls off a bridge into a river. Hopper drags himself back onto the street. To his dismay, he finds that he is no longer visible to most people - he has turned into a spirit. He gets stressed again: His time as a ghost is limited and he has to secure the future of his children before he gets to the hereafter. However, disembodiment as a spirit also has advantages: it can slip through telephone lines, sit on lampshades unnoticed, walk through walls, and it has many other useful skills that are not available to the living. The end of the story develops unexpectedly. With the help of a "ghost doctor" and his children, the troubled father can slip back into his mortal shell. However, he no longer feels that he has been fired as bad, since he learned during the time of his “being in the spirit” that his children, whom he had initially neglected due to his work, are the most important thing in his life.
Reviews
- Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that the film was not funny. He criticized the script as inconsistent and illogical. He also wrote that while Bill Cosby was not a great actor, he played acceptable on the television shows. Ebert surprised the "exaggerated" portrayal of Cosby in this film, which is in contrast to the portrayals of the other actors.
- Rita Kempley wrote in The Washington Post that the film has no depth. He is too happy to be considered witty.
- Lexicon of international film : "Family-friendly entertainment with a few nice gags ..."
