Ian Bannen (born June 29, 1928 in Airdrie , Lanarkshire , Scotland , † November 3, 1999 in Knockies Straight , Loch Ness , Scotland) was a Scottish film and stage actor .

Life

Bannen, son of a Scottish lawyer , served in the British Army and attended Ratcliffe College in Leicestershire . In 1947 his first arrangements were made on the Dublin stage before he went to London , where he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company . He made Bannen's film debut in 1951 in the drama Underworld . Numerous film offers followed, and he played in more than 100 productions. Richard Harris and Peter O'Toole were among his best friends .

Ian Bannen was married to the British Marilyn Salisbury from 1976 until his death . He died at the age of 71 as a result of a car accident on Loch Ness .

In addition to a 1,966 received Oscar nomination in the category Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe nomination for The Flight of the Phoenix was banning the BAFTA for his life's work honored.
