Ian Ronald Emes , occasionally wrong Ian Eames (born August 17, 1949 in Handsworth , Birmingham ) is a British animator and director , best known for his work for the band Pink Floyd , who used his cartoons as background projections on their shows and added as bonus material on their DVDs.

Life

Emes grew up as the son of the police officer Ronald Emes , who was also the coach of the Olympic canoe team . Ian Emes attended the Marsh Hill Boys Technical School in Erdington , Birmingham and studied in Bristol . His first work, French Windows , he began as a student at Birmingham College of Art and finished it when he was unemployed. He backed the cartoon with One of These Days by Pink Floyd. After it was shown at the Ikon Gallery, the television show The Old Gray Whistle Test took it on and Pink Floyd discovered the video. The band invited Emes to a private screening and then suggested that he make a film for the stage background of their show for The Dark Side of the Moon . His animation about Time was finally published on the Pulse DVD (1995). He also made a film for Roger Waters ' The Wall: Live In Berlin (1990).

His work for Pink Floyd caught the attention of Linda McCartney , who asked Emes to make a clip of Wings ' Oriental Nightfish . Emes also worked for Mike Oldfield and Duran Duran .

For his short film Goodie Two Shoes , he received a BAFTA Award in 1984 in the Best Short Film category and an Oscar nomination. He received another BAFTA award for the children's television series Bookaboo .
