Kit West
Christopher John "Kit" West (born 1936 in London ; † April 16, 2016 ) was a British special effects artist who received the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1982 for Raiders of the Lost Ark .
Life
Kit West went to King's College in London. He then worked as a camera assistant at Realist Film Unit , a military documentary film company. After two years in the army, he returned to the Realist Film Unit , albeit in TV advertising. From 1963 he first worked in special effects on films such as The Vampire's Kiss , Bandits on the Moon and Inspector Clouseau, the “best” man at Interpol .
In 1982, when he first worked with Steven Spielberg for Raiders of the Lost Ark, he received the Oscar for Best Visual Effects . He received two other nominations in 1986 for The Secret of the Hidden Temple and 1997 for Dragonheart , both of which he was VFX Supervisor .
