Interior of the church

The Roman Catholic parish church Jennersdorf is in a dominant position on the narrow side of Dreiecksangerplatz in the municipality of Jennersdorf ( Gyanafalva in Hungarian , Ženavci in Slovenian ) in the Jennersdorf district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Wenceslas and belongs to the Jennersdorf dean's office .

history

The parish was established before 1578, was at times Protestant and was re-Catholicized before 1664. The present church was built in 1780 by the Heiligenkreuz Abbey according to plans by Franz Anton Pilgram and renovated in 1970. An interior restoration followed in 1978.

Architecture and equipment

The church has a richly structured western tower facade with an onion dome. The following inscription can be read above the tower portal: " Die / Kirchen paut 1780 / geflaster / 1800 " (translation: " This church was built in 1780 and completed in 1800. ")

The church is a three-bay, single-nave hall with a retracted choir that is flat on the outside and semi-elliptical on the inside. Between the belt arches resting on mighty pilasters there is a square vault , as well as in the square choir bay.

The gallery is triaxial.

The neo-Gothic carved altar erected in 1904 comes from the altar maker Josef Rifesser from Ortisei in Val Gardena . The side altars were built in the middle of the 19th century in the “late baroque” style. The picture on the right altar shows the Holy Family , painted by Philipp Carl Laubmann in 1782 . The side figures are two apostles. The oil painting on the left side altar shows the “Madonna with Rosary”. The medallions were made around 1780. The side figures represent the holy kings of Hungary Stephan and Ladislaus . The pulpit was created around 1760, on the basket there is gold-plated rococo decoration and the heads of the evangelist symbols are embedded in rocailles .

The organ was built in the 19th century. Today's windows were designed by Hannelore Knittler-Gesellmann as part of the interior renovation in 1978 .
