Michael J. Kohut
Michael J. Kohut (born June 8, 1943 , † 2012 ) was an American sound engineer who was nominated seven times for the Oscar for Best Sound .
Live and act
Kohut's career began in 1965 as a cable technician in the sound department of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Culver City . He later worked there as a sound engineer, particularly at the Cary Grant Theater, and in this role was involved in more than 50 film productions. His work has received many awards, he won his next Oscar nominations, among others twice the British Academy Film Awards in the category Best Sound for Fame (1980) and WarGames (1983).
Kohut continued to operate at the Culver City location while the owners changed. When Lorimar took over the studios in 1986, he was given additional management tasks. In 1989 he was Vice President of Post Production and Head of Sound Engineering. At the same time, Sony took over the company. In 1996, Kohut became President of Post Production at Sony Pictures Studios . Kohut was also one of the developers of the Sony Dynamic Digital Sound sound system and is listed as an inventor in several Sony's patents on sound reinforcement technology.
