Phyllis Logan (born January 11, 1956 in Paisley , Scotland ) is a British actress .

Life

A native of Scotland, Phyllis Logan received her acting experience at the Dundee Repertory Theater . In her acting career she has appeared in a variety of films and television productions. In 1993 she appeared in the Oscar-winning short film Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life . In Germany she became known through the tragicomedy Lügen und Secrets, staged by director Mike Leigh in 1996, with Brenda Blethyn and Timothy Spall in the leading roles. In 1983 she received the BAFTA Award for her performance in Another Time, Another Place . In the television series Downton Abbey , she has played the role of housekeeper Mrs. Hughes since the first season .

Phyllis Logan's first marriage was to Paul Tender. She has a son with her second husband, Kevin R. McNally .
