Dick Richards (Director)

Dick Richards , also RM Richards , (* 1936 in New York City , New York as Richard Richards ) is an American film director , producer and screenwriter .

After working as a photographer (including for Life Magazine ), Richards began his film career as a director of commercials. His film career began in 1972 with the Western Greenhorn , for which he wrote the script and directed . In 1975 Fahr zur Hölle, Liebling based on the novel by Raymond Chandler with Robert Mitchum in the main role and Sylvester Stallone in a minor supporting role, followed in 1975 .

Other directorial works were Marschier oder die die (1977) with Gene Hackman and Terence Hill , Herzen in Aufruhr with Martin Sheen (1983) and Heat - Nik, der Killer with Burt Reynolds (1986).

After coming across the script for Tootsie , he was originally supposed to take over the directing; after difficulties with the script, he limited himself to the production (alongside director Sydney Pollack ), which earned him an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Picture in 1983 . The two were also nominated for the BAFTA Film Award .
