Vaughn (2010)

Matthew Vaughn (born March 7, 1971 in London , England ) is a British film producer , director , screenwriter and entrepreneur . In 2003 he founded the film production company Marv Films .

Life

Vaughn was raised to believe that his father was the actor Robert Vaughn . His mother, actress Kathy Ceaton, was dating Robert Vaughn at the time of his birth; the relationship was on the verge of failure. Robert Vaughn has always denied paternity. When she was finally examined in the 1980s, the biological father was found to be British aristocrat George Albert Harley Drummond (also known as George de Vere Drummond). Drummond is the godchild of King George VI. and godfather of model Jodie Kidd . Vaughn therefore adopted the name Matthew de Vere Drummond for private use .

In May 2002, Matthew Vaughn married the German model Claudia Schiffer . The two have three children, a boy and two girls. The son was born on January 30, 2003, the first daughter on November 11, 2004 and the second on May 14, 2010.

Career

Vaughn was taught at the Stowe School in Buckingham . After school, he traveled on a Hard Rock Cafe tour and returned to Los Angeles where he began working as an assistant director . Vaughn returned to London and began studying anthropology and history . However, since his interest in films continued, he left university after a few weeks and returned to Los Angeles. At the age of 25 he produced a thriller called The Eyewitness - Hunted Mercilessly , but it was not very successful.

With his friend Guy Ritchie , Vaughn founded the joint film production company Ska Films in London in 1997 . Together with Bube, Dame, König, grAS they then produced their first joint film, which became a commercial success. The subsequent films Snatch and Stormy Love - Swept Away by Guy Ritchie were produced by Vaughn.

In 2003 Vaughn founded the film production company Marv Films . With this, Vaughn made his debut as a director in 2004 with Layer Cake . After the success of that film, he was offered to direct X-Men 3 . However, he declined the offer. Instead, he first took over the work as a screenwriter, as well as director and producer of the 2007 fantasy film Der Sternwanderer , which is based on the novel Sternwanderer . The film was a financial success and received mostly positive reviews.

His interest in comic adaptations was evident through his collaboration as a screenwriter, producer and director on Kick-Ass in 2010, as well as in 2011 through the script and direction of the film X-Men: First Decision , a prequel of the X-Men film series. In 2014 he realized Kingsman: The Secret Service , another comic book adaptation.

style

The 80s and 70s are important to Vaughn when it comes to movies. Action is more important to him than style, so for him the action dictates the camera movement. Vaughn is very involved in the various sub-areas, such as visual effects or film music , of his film productions. Vaughn, who is color-blind, attaches great importance to the musical design of his films. Vaughn enjoys working with a well-coordinated team. He often relied on the same cameraman , film editor (most recently Eddie Hamilton ), film composer or production company for visual effects. Vaughn has also written each of his scripts together with scriptwriter Jane Goldman . Actor Mark Strong starred in most of his films.

While Vaughn initially mainly shot British gangster films and felt very safe doing this work, Vaughn has been working on comic adaptations since Der Sternwanderer , as happened with X-Men: First Decision and previously with Kick-Ass based on the comic model Mark Millars . Vaughn is also planning several comic book adaptations in the future. He owns the film rights to several works by the comic author Mark Millar.
