John Logan

John Logan (born September 24, 1961 in San Diego , California ) is an American writer and screenwriter .

Life

Logan studied at Northwestern University in Chicago until 1983 . After graduating, he worked for 10 years as a library assistant in the Law Library at Northwestern University. During this time he wrote numerous pieces for Chicago theater groups, including Never the Sinner (1985), Hauptmann (1986), Music From A Locked Room (1989), Riverview: A Melodrama With Music (1991), Scorched Earth (1991) and The View from Golgotha (1996). His play Red, about the painter Mark Rothko , premiered in London in 2009. The production by Michael Grandage was from the John Golden Theater on 2010 Broadway accepted and received six Tony Awards , including the for the best piece, after it had been nominated in seven categories. In 2013, two of Logan's pieces premiered in London and New York. Peter and Alice, starring Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw , premiered on March 25, 2013 at the Noel Coward Theater, London, and was directed by Michael Grandage. On April 24, 2013 I'll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers at the Booth Theater on Broadway. Directed by Joe Mantello , the leading role played by Bette Midler .

He has also worked as a screenwriter since the mid-1990s. Logan made his debut in 1996 with the film Tornado! . His best-known films include Gladiator (2000) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). In 2001 he was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of Gladiator , in 2005 he received a nomination for Aviator in the same category and again in 2012 for Hugo Cabret . 2001 received the WGA Award in the television category for his screenplay for Citizen Kane - The Hollywood Legend . In 2004 he was named Screenwriter of the Year at the Hollywood Film Festival.

With his screenplay for Hugo Cabret (2011), he worked with director Martin Scorsese for the second time after Aviator . In 2011 he wrote the screenplay for Ralph Fiennes ' film adaptation of Shakespeare's Coriolanus . In the same year Logan worked on the script for the 23rd James Bond film Skyfall , which came out in the fall of 2012. Logan was also involved in James Bond 007: Specter (2015).

2014 he developed the idea to Showtime - TV series Penny Dreadful , to which he contributed all screenplays for the first two seasons. He was also responsible for the follow-up series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels , which started in April 2020.
