Sinbad - The Lord of the Seven Seas (Original title: Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas ) is an American cartoon from 2003, with the animation of DreamWorks Animation . The film opened in German cinemas on July 2, 2003.

action

Sinbad , the most daring and notorious sailor to ever sail the Seven Seas, spends his life looking for problems that he eventually finds. On a foray he and his crew attack the ship of his best friend Proteus, who is Prince of Syracuse and is supposed to transport the world's most precious and powerful treasure, the Book of Peace, there. The two are then targeted by the goddess of chaos, Eris, who sees the chance to plunge the world into a new chaos. In their fight for the treasure, however, they are suddenly interrupted by Setacus, a sea monster and Eris' pet. Together they manage to defeat the monster, but Sinbad is pulled into the depths by it. There he meets Eris, who offers him enormous wealth and his life against the theft of the book. He accepts the offer, whereupon Eris gives him her divine word not to break this agreement. Then Sinbad and his men go to a party in Syracuse, where he meets Proteus' fiancée, Marina. During the course of the night, Eris steals the Book of Peace in the guise of Sinbad, whereupon the latter is brought before a court and sentenced to death. However, Proteus requires an exchange, so Sinbad has 10 days to bring the book back, otherwise Proteus would take its place. Sinbad then wants to flee immediately and sail to Fiji, but unexpectedly he meets Marina on board, who has bought into the ship with diamonds. Sinbad's initial dislike for her later turns into respect after Marina saves the crew from the sirens. In the course of their journey they meet a deep-sea monster and a roch sent by Eris. Despite all the obstacles, they finally arrive at the end of the world. Sinbad and Marina meet Eris in Tartarus. Eris then offers him a bet to prove that, contrary to Marina's opinion, his heart is just as black as Eris'. Again she gives him her divine, unbreakable word and asks him whether, if he did not receive the book, he would go to Syracuse to die or flee and leave Proteus to die. She assures him that if the answer is correct, he will receive the book. She then sends him without the book from Tartarus, whereupon he decides to sail back. However, Eris saves him from death at the last second and, bound by her divine word, reluctantly gives him the book. In the end he sails out into the world with his love Marina.

occupation

Russell Crowe was originally intended as the voice for Sinbad, but left the cast after a short time due to scheduling problems. He was replaced by Brad Pitt , who wanted to make a movie that his nieces and nephews could see. He said, “You are not allowed to see my films. Severed heads and so on. ”Pitt suspected that his Missouri accent might not suit a Middle Eastern character, but the filmmakers thought the accent would brighten the film's aura a little.

Michelle Pfeiffer , who lent her voice to Eris, struggled to find evil in her character. At first the character was “too sexual”, then too uncomfortable. After the third rewrite, Pfeiffer called Jeffrey Katzenberg to tell him he could fire her; Katzenberg replied that this was only part of the development.
