Lessons and extracurricular offers

The curriculum development in the "Elinor-Ostrom-Schule" has been based on learning fields since 2004, although this was only made mandatory in 2014 for the profession. This led to the dissolution of the classic subjects and to an integration of the content in process-oriented teaching and learning arrangements. The practical part is presented in a learning office in which the purchasing and sales processes are mapped. In the second year of training, the personnel processes are also mapped and the simulation is carried out using the SAP R / 3 ERP system . In addition to the lessons, various teaching projects are integrated into the lessons. Particularly noteworthy are projects

Methodologically and didactically, attempts are being made to increasingly teach according to the system of individualized learning .

Use of company software / support for other vocational schools

The Elinor-Ostrom-Schule developed the learning platform erp4school to design lessons with the ERP software SAP ERP ECC 6.0. This enables the operational handling of the software to be separated from the business context. The interrelationships in the company are presented and made tangible along the basic processes of logistics (sales, procurement, production) and personnel. In connection with the development of the learning platform, which is now used nationwide at over 150 institutions (vocational schools, universities of applied sciences), the training course "Commercial assistant for information processing, focus: business software / ERP" was developed. The future employees of a company with this training represent a link between the commercial and technical departments. With commercial expertise, they are able to support the complex planning and the implementation and maintenance of ERP systems in the company. As part of the student company "supERP" - it is part of the teaching in this training occupation - the affiliated institutions are supervised in terms of content. For example, basic training courses for colleagues from other schools and support from the students are implemented.

Internships abroad

A special feature is the annual internship abroad in Ireland, England, Finland and Poland. In recent years, in all courses and supported by the EU's Leonardo project, over 50 trainees have been able to travel abroad for between 4 and 12 weeks every year. A large number of internships abroad with additional destinations can be offered with the “Go Europe” agency, which has recently been located at the Elinor Ostrom School.

The buildings

Second location in the school building designed by Hermann Blankenstein in 1878 in Pappelallee (Prenzlauer Berg)

The Mandelstrasse location got its name from the engraver Eduard Mandel , who lived from 1810 to 1882. The school was built from 1914/15 to 1924 by the well-known Berlin master builder and architect Ludwig Hoffmann (1852-1932), of whom other architectural monuments can be found in the city, such as the Rudolf Virchow Hospital in Berlin-Wedding and the Märkisches Museum in Berlin-Mitte. The school building has a closed development on the street front and a four-storey three-wing complex in the courtyard area, in which the classrooms are located. It is a plastered masonry construction of 5,520 square meters with a large arched gate passage. At the time of construction, the 306th and 307th community schools were located here.

The second location at Pappelallee 30/31 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg was built in 1873/74 by the Berlin City Councilor and architect Hermann Wilhelm A. Blankenstein . The school building is a four-storey complex in closed development, a masonry structure with red clinker facing. It has a strict, sparsely structured facade with rhythmically arranged arched and round arched windows in the style of academic historicism. The school opened on November 2, 1874.
