2011 World Women's Squash Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 27th Women's Squash World Championship took place from November 1st to 6th, 2011 in Rotterdam , the Netherlands . The World Cup was the most highly endowed tournament on the 2011/12 WSA World Tour . The men's world championship took place at the same time .

Defending champion was Nicol David , who won the title again this year. In the course of the tournament she did not give a single sentence. After victories over Delia Arnold (11: 3, 11: 6, 11: 5), Nour El Sherbini (11: 7, 11: 6, 11: 7) and Kasey Brown (11: 7, 12:10, 11: 4 ) she met Natalie Grinham from the Netherlands in the semi-finals . She also won this game clearly with 11: 9, 11: 4 and 11: 6, whereby she reached the final. There Nicol David met the second seeded Englishwoman Jenny Duncalf . Duncalf had initially prevailed against Line Hansen (11: 9, 12:10, 11: 7) and Joelle King (11: 9, 7:11, 11: 1, 11: 3) before they came in fifth in the quarterfinals seeded compatriot Laura Massaro with 11: 9, 11: 7 and 11: 7 defeated. In the semifinals she defeated the Mexican Samantha Terán just as clearly with 11: 9, 11: 4 and 11: 7. In the end, Nicol David decided the final very clearly for himself. So Duncalf had no chance in the 3-0 win of David over the entire course of the game, when they dominated the game with 11: 2, 11: 5 and 11: 0. With this success Nicol David expanded her record to six world championship titles and thus became the sole record holder. Sarah Fitz-Gerald had won the world championship five times in her career. The second in the world rankings at the time, Jenny Duncalf, was in a world championship final for the first time.

There was one participant each from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Sina Wall from Germany and Birgit Coufal from Austria were eliminated in the second round of qualification. The Swiss Gaby Huber qualified for the main round. In the first round she was eliminated from Joelle King in three sets.

The field of participants consisted of 32 players, nine of which were starting places for qualifiers. Per Wildcard received Orla Noom a spot in the main draw.
