Britta Martin (* 2 September 1978 in Hannover ) is a former for New Zealand blasting German triathlete and multiple Ironman -Siegerin (2012, 2014). She is included in the best list of German and New Zealand triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Britta Martin studied sports science at the Technical University of Munich after graduating from high school in Bad Nenndorf and was initially active in cycling.

Triathlon since 2003

In her first triathlon season in 2003, she was the fastest woman in her first two competitions, the premiere event of the City Triathlon in Munich and the Karlsfeld Triathlon, together with Faris Al-Sultan , two years later winner of the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii Man on the podium. At the German Championships in 2003 over the middle distance in Kulmbach , she took seventh place in the individual ranking 36 minutes behind Nina Kraft , who was third at the Ironman Hawaii two months later, and was German runner-up in the team of the MRRC Munich . After two years without competitions due to injury, Britta Martin's team from MRRC Munich took first place in the 2nd Bundesliga South in the 2006 season and was thus Bavarian team champion. In 2007 Britta Martin started for the Stuttgart cycling team .

At the end of 2007 she moved to Nelson , New Zealand , to live with her partner Robin Reid , a cyclist on the New Zealand team at the 2004 Olympic Games . Reid and Britta Martin got to know each other at the Tour de Pakistan , the longest cycling race in Asia, organized over 22 stages based on the example of the Tour de France . Both won the men's and women's rankings here.

Britta Martin has been a professional triathlete since 2008.

Ironman distance since 2009

After a victory in December when Half-Ironman Taupo three months followed later in the same place the Ironman debut in 2009 with ninth place, once again a year later at the same place almost ten minutes faster with space 5. Three months later fourth place at Ironman France , at the next attempt in 2011 - with a fatigue fracture in the foot in the race - third place at the Ironman France in Nice. In the New Zealand summer and European winter, Britta Martin was three minutes behind Gina Crawford second in the Challenge Wanaka .

In 2012, the leap into world class finally came: at the long-distance triathlon championship held by the European Triathlon Union (ETU) in July 2012, she missed the nine-hour mark by just 69 seconds and came fourth in the Challenge Roth . In December 2012 she won her first Ironman victory in Busselton, Australia . As a result, Britta Martin qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona (Hawaii) for the first time , where she crossed the finish line as the second best German woman behind Kristin Möller in October 2013 .

In April 2014 she won the Challenge Taiwan on the long distance in Taitung . This second victory over the long distance was a doubly emotional moment: her father died only a few days before the race and her mother's birthday was on the day of the race. In September 2014 she won her second Ironman victory in Wisconsin and in December Britta Martin won again at Ironman Western Australia . As the fiftieth woman to finish in a race under nine hours in the history of the Ironman worldwide, she set a new course record for this race.

In February 2015 Britta Martin celebrated her victory at the Marlborough Sounds Half Ironman together with her partner Robin Reid, who won the men's championship. Robin Reid has also been competing in triathlons for several years and he set his personal best in July 2014 at the Challenge Roth with 8:54 h (18th place).

In order to collect more qualification points for the Ironman World Championships 2015 in Hawaii, Britta Martin took part in the Ironman 70.3 Racine in Wisconsin in July 2015. Originally, she had planned to participate in Ironman Korea, which was then canceled. Two technical defects that occurred in quick succession on the first few kilometers of the bike course threw her far back, however, and she ultimately reached the goal as the 97th woman. Nevertheless, this was enough to get another starting place in Hawaii as the woman placed 23rd in the Kona Points Ranking System . At the Ironman Hawaii she was the best-placed German in 9:47:31 h ahead of Katrin Esefeld and Mareen Hufe .

Britta Martin is trained by John Hellemans, a doctor, multiple age class winner at the Ironman Hawaii and trainer of the Dutch triathlon team, which has already hosted numerous prominent triathletes such as B. Erin Baker , Andrea Hewitt and others supervised. Your swimming coach is Andy Adair , who specializes in open water swimming and B. supervised the New Zealand team at the Oceanic Swimming Championships 2012.

Maternity 2016

In August 2016, she announced that she was five months pregnant and her family now has priority. Their son was born in December. Since then she has not appeared internationally.
