The Europaschule Gymnasium Bad Nenndorf ( GBN ) is one of a total of five high schools in the Schaumburg district and is located in the east of the district in the small town of Bad Nenndorf . Since August 2005 it has been an all-day school . Since May 26, 2001 the school has been called the European School .

history

The school has its roots in the private secondary school in Bad Nenndorf, which was founded in 1921 on the initiative of Bad Nenndorfer and Helsinghausen citizens. Teaching was initially held in an inn with partly old-fashioned and partly borrowed furniture. In 1933 the school moved to a bought house at Bahnhofsstraße 19. After the Second World War , the old school building was confiscated by British occupation troops as part of a restricted military area in the city. In order to be able to continue the lessons, one avoided in emergency rooms.

In 1956 the school was recognized as a state grammar school and grades 11 to 13 were established. In 1959, the first Abitur was finally passed. In 1960 the grammar school moved to a new building on Bahnhofstrasse. In 1977 another move to the current building at Horster Straße 42 followed. In 2001 the European school was opened and an extension with a new cafeteria and library was inaugurated. After the abolition of the orientation level in Lower Saxony, grades 5 and 6 were integrated into the grammar school, but for reasons of space they were housed in the adjoining building on Bahnhofstrasse. In 2017 a further extension was made in order to be able to teach the younger generation in the main building. In addition, in connection with the construction work on the extension, an "upper level room" was set up so that pupils from the 11th grade can work undisturbed.

The school has its own WiFi, e-mail server, whiteboards, laptops in almost every classroom and two computer rooms.

The open day takes place annually on February 28th.

Partnerships

The GBN has both mathematical and scientific partnerships as well as foreign language partnerships. On the one hand, the school is a member of the MINT-EC eV association, an association of schools throughout Germany with a focus on mathematics and science. There is also a good cooperation with the University of Hanover, so that upper-level students complete internships there and complete specialist work or special learning achievements. On the other hand, the school is a member of the Comenius project , a joint project of European schools on specific topics. In addition, the pupils can acquire a state, French language diploma ( DELF / DALF ) within the framework of an AG, with which access to French universities is open. The SHG student academy , in which society-related topics are dealt with, is aimed at high school students .

Student exchange

The GBN maintains exchange programs with four European schools, which take place annually if possible. In England they have contact with the Graveney School in London . The grammar school can look back on a partnership with the Lycée Albert Triboulet in Romans-sur-Isère (southern France) that has existed since 1963 . There is also an international youth exchange project dedicated to dealing with the Shoah. This project is carried out in cooperation with the partner school in Krakow in Poland and Germany, most recently also with students from Jerusalem / Israel. Since 2010, the Bad Nenndorf high school has also been maintaining a student exchange with the Chinese metropolis of Chongqing and the Chongqing Nankai Secondary School located there . As part of this annual exchange, the school groups visit each other for 14 days and are accommodated in host families. The aim of this program is, in particular, intercultural exchange and getting to know foreign political and social systems.
