Katrin Esefeld (born August 10, 1982 in Altötting ) is a German long-distance runner , duathlete , triathlete and multiple age group winner at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii (2011: age group F25–29; 2014 and 2015: F30–34). She is two-time German champion on the long distance duathlon (2014, 2016).
Career
Katrin Esefeld grew along with her brother in Mühldorf on, after her high school graduation on Ruperti-Gymnasium Mühldorf 2001 began first at the University of Munich , a medicine -Studies that led them to the pre-clinical part of the Technical University of Munich continued and 2008 with the second Completed section of medical examination .
Triathlon since 2001
In 2001, Esefeld, who had been primarily active in swimming, completed her first triathlon in Feldkirchen . In 2006 she won the 20-24 age group at the World Triathlon Championships in Lausanne. Then the German Triathlon Union (DTU) honored her as “climber of the year”.
From 2007 to 2010 Esefeld u. a. together with Anja Ippach , Wenke Kujala and Marija Schorez for SC Riederau in the Triathlon Bundesliga . Before that, she was trained in 2006 a. a. together with Britta Martin and Renate Forstner for the MRRC Munich champions in the 2nd Bundesliga South . Katrin Esefeld has been trained by Marc Pschebizin since 2008 and starts for the LG Mettenheim and SC Riederau clubs .
Ironman distance since 2011
In 2011, Katrin Esefeld started the Ironman distance in Regensburg for the first time , and she qualified for a place at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii . In October 2011 she won there in the age group (AK) 25-29 years.
Since her first participation in 2011, Esefeld has been able to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii every year. In 2013, however, her appearance there was less successful: a discarded water bottle fell right in front of the bike and she could no longer avoid a fall. After a few minutes of unconsciousness and a traumatic brain injury , she continued the competition, which she herself later described as negligent.
After 2011, Esefeld won her age group again in 2014 and 2015 (AG30–34).
German champion duathlon long distance 2014
In May 2014 she became German champion in the long distance duathlon after finishing second here in 2011 and 2012. In 2014, Esefeld was the 28th woman after Julia Gajer and Kristin Möller, the third fastest German in Hawaii.
In 2015 she was in Hawaii with 19th place in the overall standings behind Britta Martin and in front of Mareen Hufe, the second best German overall and set the fastest bike time of the day (5:15:48 h for 180 km) of all amateurs. In August 2016 she was fourth at Powerman Germany after 2014 and again German champion and in May 2017 the then 34-year-old German runner-up in the long distance duathlon. In June 2017 she finished second on the Olympic distance at the Erding City Triathlon.
In May 2018 she was the best German fourth at the European Duathlon Championships middle distance in Denmark. In October she was runner-up in the Ironman Hawaii world champion in the 35-39 age group.
Private
Katrin Esefeld has lived in Munich since 2001 and works as a specialist in internal medicine at the Polyclinic for Preventive and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine at the Klinikum rechts der Isar .
