The Rursee-Marathon is a marathon in the Simmerath district of Einruhr , which has been taking place on the first Sunday in November since 1997 and is run by the Rursee-Marathon e. V. is organized. After the Monschau Marathon, it is the second largest marathon in the Eifel . The program also includes a 16.5 km run (since 2004) and a 5 km run the day before.

organization

The profiled circular route, in part by the National Park Eifel leads begins in Einruhr at the south end of the Rurtalsperre belonging Obernsee and surrounds the Rurstausee counterclockwise. At km 7 the Urfttalsperre is reached. Now it goes on the edge of the Kermeter to Paulushofdamm (where the runners of the 16.5 km route switch to the other bank and from there go directly to the goal) and on to the dam wall, which is crossed at km 19. Continuing along the banks of the Rursee, you pass the Eschauel peninsula, the villages of Woffelsbach and Rurberg and, four kilometers before your destination, the Eiserbach dam .

In 2005, the inclusion of the Vogelsang military training area, which was abandoned in that year, further increased the scenic attractiveness of the route.

In 2016, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the marathon, an ultra run of 52 km was also offered. The marathon route was extended to include a loop through the Eifel National Park.
