The dam Eiserbach is a 1959 finished, small dam , known as pre-dam in the Eifel located Rurtalsperre serves Schwammenauel. It is located near Simmerath in the southwest part of the North Rhine-Westphalian city region of Aachen ( Germany ). The water of the small Rur tributary Eiserbach is dammed . It consists of the Eiserbach dam and the Eiserbach basin and is operated by the Eifel-Rur water association.
Geographical location
The Eiserbach dam is located in the Rureifel (part of the northern Eifel ), southwest of the Kermeter , north of the Dreiborn plateau and on the southern edge of the Simmerath district of Rurberg . It is located in the Eifel National Park , which extends within the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park , directly southwest of the Rur reservoir , in which the water of the Rur is dammed by the Rur reservoir.
dam
The dam is the Eiserbach dam, completed in 1959 and built directly south of Rurberg. The 21 m high, 235 m long and 7.5 m wide dam at the top is an earth dam with a clay inner seal and 90,000 m³ building volume. When the water level in the Rur reservoir is high, it is also dammed on its air side .
Reservoir
The dam is about 3 ha large forebay Eiserbach. At the destination of the reservoir , the water surface is 279.6 m above sea level. NN (normal traffic jam). The total storage space is 0.35 million m³. The basin has a small overflow funnel for flood relief .
In the basin, the water of the 3.1 km long Eiserbach , which flows mainly from the west and which also forms the reservoir drain, is dammed up; However, the remaining or 350 m long creek located below the dam is overflowed when the water level in the Rur reservoir is high. Almost 400 m above the influence of the Eiserbach in the reservoir, the 1 km long Kleinenbach flows south-southwest of Rurberg, coming from the north-west.
The Eiserbach basin is designed as the Eiserbachsee natural open-air pool.
