The Heimbach dam in Heimbach (Eifel) , together with the Obermaubach reservoir, serves as a compensation basin for the hydropower plants of the Urfttalsperre ( Heimbach power plant ) and the Rurtalsperre . It compensates for the fluctuations in the water level ( Urft wave ) that arise from the intermittent operation of the hydropower plants in the two larger dams.

The small dam with a gravity dam made of stamped concrete is located directly below the Rur dam on the Rur in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia . It is operated by the Eifel-Rur water association . It has its own hydropower plant with an output of 775 kW. The overflow is like a weir and has an 18 m wide fish belly flap to adjust the water level at least when it is almost completely full.

Use for local recreation

The operator of the dams, the Eifel-Rur water association or the Cologne district government, has issued conditions of use for the use of the waters.
