Powerman (Duathlon)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Powerman Zofingen - venue of the Duathlon World Championship over the long distance

Powerman is an international series of duathlon events. Duathlon is an endurance sport consisting of an all-around competition of two disciplines: It consists of a running distance, a cycling stage and then another running distance, which are played one after the other.

organization

The Powerman series was created in 1994 with initially twelve competitions as a worldwide qualification series for the Powerman Zofingen, which was initially organized in 1989 by Urs Linsi and Bruno Imfeld . With up to 300,000 US dollars in the 1990s, the prize money at Powerman Zofingen even exceeded that of Ironman Hawaii .

Venues

The Powerman races are held internationally over different distances by the IPA (International Powerman Association):

Powerman Alabama

This race was first held in 1996 in Birmingham (Alabama) . This Powerman is going to be played today at Oak Mountain State Park (running 6 miles, cycling 60 km and running 10 km). In 2012 the US American Duathlon Championships were held here.

Powerman Austria

Powerman Austria was held for the first time in 1997. Since 2005, the national champion of the long distance duathlon has been determined here. In 2014 the ETU European Championships for elite athletes and the U23 class took place here. The Austrian Championships on the Duathlon Long Distance was born on July 24, 2016 for the tenth time in Weyer held

The race goes over the following distances:

  • 15.6 km run
  • 82.4 km cycling
  • 7.3 km run

The Belgian Joerie Vansteelant has already won six times here. In the women’s category, the Hungarian Erika Csomor and the Danish Susanne Svendsen have already won three.

The event planned for August 19, 2017 was canceled in January because the Duathlon World Championships in Canada also took place this weekend. In 2018 there was another staging of the state championship. For 2019, the race had to be canceled due to a lack of funding and the continuation is still uncertain.

Powerman Germany

The Falkensteiner Duathlon has been held in Falkenstein since 1993 . Since 2009 this has been organized over the distances of 16 km running, 64 km cycling and 8 km running under license from the IPA under the brand "Powerman".

The Powerman Germany planned for May 31, 2015 had to be canceled due to the low number of registrations.

In 2016, the German championship on the long distance duathlon was held for the first time in Ulm. Katrin Esefeld from Munich was fourth overall German champion at the “Powerman Germany Ulm” - ahead of Celia Kuch , who was 38 years old from Weinheim .

In 2017 the German Championships were held here again. In 2018 the German championship sheep took place over the short distance (10 km / 40 km / 5 km) at the Powerman Alsdorf . The elite competition was won by Patrick Reger for the men and Kristina Ziemons for the women . A total of 1010 registered participants were at the start this year.

In 2001 Kühnel handed over the organization to the city of Spalt and the clubs TSV Spalt, SV Großweingarten and TSV Wernfels. The length of the route was reduced to 10 km - 80 km - 10 km, but there were no other events beyond 2001 in Spalt.
