Imke Schiersch (born June 12, 1970 in Jever ) is a former German triathlete .

Career

As a teenager, Imke Schiersch practiced equestrian sports from 1975 to 1988 and in 1983 she started with athletics (middle distance and all-around).

As a former middle-distance runner, she gained a lot of experience on the bike in the following years (1992 to 1999). Born in East Frisia, she moved to the vicinity of Roth in 1997 .

Imke Schiersch first started in 1999 in the triathlon over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running).

In July 2000 Imke Schiersch became German Vice-Champion Cross-Triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 35 km mountain bike and 10 km trail run). In 2003 she became German Vice Champion Duathlon.

3rd place Ironman European Championships 2004 and 2005

In 2004 and again in 2005 she was third at the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt am Main (Ironman Germany: 3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In 2006 and 2007 she was fourth and in 2008 fifth.

After a baby break, she started in the Half Challenge Barcelona in May 2011 , where she finished eighth in the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km running).

In 2012, Imke Schiersch declared her active time as a competitive athlete ended and began working as a coach.
