The Challenge Vichy was the name of a triathlon event that took place annually from 2011 to 2014 in and around the French city of Vichy in Auvergne and was part of the Challenge Family Triathlon World Series . Since 2015 the race has been held under the name “ Ironman Vichy ”.

history

The Challenge Vichy took place for the first time in 2011 and followed the Challenge Niederbronn-les-Bains from 2008 to 2010 as the second Challenge Family competition on French soil . The American Amy Marsh and the British Stephen Bayliss won the first edition .

In 2012, the route was shortened and held as a half-distance competition in order to avoid health risks for the athletes due to the high temperatures on the race weekend. In 2013, Challenge Vichy was the venue for the ETU - Long Distance European Championship , where German Diana Riesler and Croat Andrej Vištica won.

In addition to the Challenge Vichy over the long distance (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running) there were also competitions over the middle distance and the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) .

In 2015 the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group , bought the organizer “Optimum Sports Events” and has been holding the triathlon since August 30, 2015 under the name Ironman Vichy .
