Joerie Vansteelant (born June 21, 1982 in Torhout ) is a former Belgian duathlete and triathlete . He is a multiple duathlon world champion (2003–2005, 2007–2009, 2011, 2012).

Career

Joerie Vansteelant is the younger brother of duathlete Benny Vansteelant, who died in 2007 .

Junior European Championship Duathlon 2001

In 2001 he won the duathlon title as European junior champion. In August 2003 he became U23 duathlon world champion on the short distance in Switzerland and he was able to successfully defend this title the following year. In 2005 he was also U23 world champion in the long distance duathlon in Italy.
In 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 he won the duathlon world title on the long distance in the elite class.

European title duathlon 2009

In 2009 and 2012 he was also able to win the title of European Duathlon Champion in the elite class.

In April 2012 he started a triathlon on the short distance for the first time and immediately came first. He then aimed for a start on the Ironman distance (triathlon long distance) in Florida. In August he won the Powerman Austria for the sixth time . Joerie Vansteelant was trained by Tim De Vilder .

At the end of the 2015 season, he declared his time as a professional athlete over.
