TriStar is an international triathlon racing series that was held from 2009 to 2012 over various distances and was restarted in September 2017.
organization
Established in 2009
The TriStar races were organized by the Austrian Georg Hochegger and his company Star Production SARL based in Monaco . In 1988, Hochegger was one of the initiators of Trimania in Klagenfurt, from which he and two partners developed Ironman Austria the following year . Further events followed in France ( Ironman France ), in Monaco (Ironman 70.3 Monaco), South Africa ( Ironman South Africa , Ironman 70.3 South Africa ) and in St. Pölten ( Ironman 70.3 Austria ). Following the sale of event agency as well as the rights to the events on to Providence Equity Partners belonging WTC founded Hochegger the company "Star Production".
In 2009, the TriStar200 Andalucía was the first race of the new TriStar racing series (169 km cycling, 1 km swimming and 30 km running). In September 2010, in addition to the professional athletes, Formula 1 professionals Jenson Button , Alexander Wurz and Nico Rosberg took part in the first edition in Monaco .
The races of the TriStar series have brought new distances to the sport of triathlon:
- TriStar11.1 : swim 100 m, cycle 10 km and run 1 km
- TriStar33.3 : 300 m swim, 30 km bike and 3 km run
- TriStar55.5 : 500 m swim, 50 km bike and 5 km run
- TriStar111 : 1 km swim, 100 km bike and 10 km run
- TriStar222 : swim 2 km, cycle 200 km and run 20 km

This racing series was last held in 2012. At that time, Star Production was running 25 TriStar races worldwide. In Europe (Monaco, Cannes, Deauville, Andalusia, Madrid, Mallorca, Worms, Kufstein, Attersee, Split, Lyon, Milton Keynes, Sardinia, Estonia), USA (Minnesota), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and the Caribbean (Nevis) . The racing series was discontinued, among other things, because the main investor left.
Resumption in 2017
A new edition with new partners has been announced for 2017. The Human Sports Management AG of the former Swiss professional cyclist Armin Meier will be there . Meier is currently the manager of Ironman Hawaii winner Daniela Ryf and he also looked after Fabian Cancellara until 2016 . After the end of his active career, the Swiss Olympic time trial champion and four-time cycling world champion has now joined TriStar. In his opinion, the distances in this racing series are ideal for strong cyclists.
The first race took place on September 3, 2017 on the Swiss shores of Lake Constance in Rorschach (as TriStar55.5 and TriStar111) and Cancellara took 14th place in the TriStar55.5. The heavy rains in eastern Switzerland on the previous days caused a landslide on the original bike route, so that a bypass had to be built for the race at short notice.
The Regensburg association "Tristar Regensburg" as the organizer of the "Regensburg Triathlon" has no connection to this racing series.
