Fernanda Keller (born October 4, 1963 in Niterói ) is a former Brazilian triathlete . She is a multiple Ironman winner and the triathlete (regardless of gender) with the largest number of top ten placements (14 times) at the Ironman Hawaii .

Career

Fernanda Keller grew up in Rio de Janeiro , where she danced ballet as a child and later played basketball, volleyball and handball as a teenager.

During her time at university, she took part in her first triathlon in Rio de Janeiro when she was nineteen and immediately became the sixth fastest woman. In the following year she was third on the podium and in 1985 she won the first triathlons in Brazil.

Long distance triathlon since 1986

In 1986 she competed internationally for the first time in the Longue Distance de Nice triathlon - at that time, along with the Ironman Hawaii, this was the event with the greatest media attention worldwide.

Since 1987 Fernanda Keller has finished in all of her 23 starts in a row at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii (3.86 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running), including fourteen times - more often than Paula Newby-Fraser (13 × ), Natascha Badmann (10 ×) and every other woman - in the prize money ranks (top ten).
Her best placement at Ironman Hawaii was third place, which she - with the exception of 1996 (6th place) - achieved every year from 1994 to 2000. In 2013 Fernanda Keller competed for the 24th time at the Ironman Hawaii to celebrate her fiftieth birthday and finished sixth of 55 women in her age group in 11:03 h.

Winner Ironman Brasil 2000

In addition, she has won the Ironman Brasil three times (2000, 2004 and 2008), and she finished twelve times in her “home competition” - never worse than sixth place. In 2001 she achieved her personal best on the Ironman distance here at the Ironman Brazil Florianópolis with 9:14:13 h. On May 29, 2011, the “Queen of Brazil” finished fifth at the age of 47 in 9:49 h in Florianópolis .
